The school

The school was opened on 1st September 1975. Although the school has been providing education for four decades, it is a modern building of three pavilions that fulfills the requirements of the present days.  In many ways it exceeds the common standards. This happens thanks to a number of reconstructions and making good use of a number of projects.

Thanks to barrier-free environment of the school we are able to provide education for disabled pupils.

Our school curriculum is called Activity, Creativity and Cooperation. This curriculum meets the strategic plans of the school and it also develops the school's vision – A spreading tree of knowledge grows from activity, creativity and close cooperation.

Location

The school's location in a quiet and clean environment, which is not affected by traffic, is the school's considerable advantage. The river Morava flows nearby, we can walk to Kunovice woods or to the town centre. We can see Stare Město with its new housing estate Travniky. We have a panoramic view of the Buchlov Castle.

Buildings

There are three barrier-free pavilions that close in two atriums. These are used during the breaks for relaxation. During the lessons teachers and their pupils make use of this space as science laboratories. A significant part of the school is formed by a school field and a playground with swings and a small climbing wall.

Classrooms

Besides for well-equipped classrooms we also have several classrooms that we are proud of. In 2011 we opened three hi-tech classrooms intended for language and IT lessons. It is necessary to highlight a video conference that enables us to communicate with the whole world. In this way our English lessons have become more attractive. We regularly use five interactive boards. In academic year 2012/2013 we are going to install other interactive boards into all classrooms of the elementary school. In 2008 we set up a new school library that has become a crucial mean for increasing students' reading skills. We cannot forget to mention two large gymnasiums and a swimming pool that is 12, 5 meters long. 

EcoSchool

The teachers and the students are involved in a number of projects. You can read more about them if you click on the icons in the right column of our introductory web site.  

Our last success was an ecological project called Bread. Our motto was "From a seed to bread".

The pupils spaded the land, sowed the rye, thrashed the harvest by handmade flails and ground the harvest. At the end of the project, they baked their own bread. In 2012 we are going to start the following project – Potatoes. Not only these mentioned projects prove our ecological thinking –but there are also a lot of other activities aimed to the international title EcoSchool that we are applying for. 

After school centre

Opening hours of our after school centre are the longest in the town. We start at 6.30 a.m. and finish at 5:00 p.m. In three departments we offer an interesting schedule including a lot of after school activities.

Canteen

During the whole week our canteen offers a possibility to choose from two kinds of lunches. 

The diners can choose from several kinds of vegetable and fruit salads in a cooling counter every day.

Pupils - before starting school

We want our future pupils of the first year to feel good at school and make the education easy for them. Therefore we prepare events before the enrollment that enable the pupils to experience the environment of the school and meet their future teachers. The events are called "At school after school" and "We are not afraid of school". The enrollment is organized in two days – on Friday and on Saturday. At the last weekend of summer holidays we hold Outdoor Induction Camp. Children, parents, teachers and the management of the school meet there. We try to prepare the children for easy move from families and kindergartens to the school. 

Outdoor Induction Camp is also effective for class 6 because new students from Jarošov make new teams. During three days at the camp children get to know each other very quickly.

Parliament

The Pupils' Parliament is actively involved in the functioning of the school. It enables students to organize a number of events and influence the life at school. We take part in the project called Pupil's Parliaments SOS. At the end of the project we are going to become a training centre for other Pupil's Parliaments in the Zlin region.

Precautions

There is a consultancy department at our school. It is a team of specialists formed by a school psychologist, education consultant, consultant of abuse prevention of socially pathological phenomena and assistant for dyslectics. Together we endeavor to prevent undesirable behavior of the pupils.

Events

A lot of events have become traditional parts of an academic year. They are Outdoor School, Christmas Fair, Projects Days, Ski Course, the Academy, a number of educational excursions and competitions organized by our teachers. 

Every week we start with morning assembly in the gymnasium. Pupils learn new information here and learn to present their skills, knowledge and opinions in front of wide audience.

Breaks

Pupils enjoy their breaks in spacious halls where they can relax and talk on installed seats. They are surrounded by rich flower decorations and up-to-date boards and panels. Sporty pupils make use of table tennis or they like playing table football. When the weather is nice, pupils like atriums that provide relaxation for them thanks to green environment. The school snack counter is very popular with students as well. 

Clubs

After the lessons we offer our students a number of clubs that we open according to current interest of children – e.g. Music, IT, Pottery, Arts, Sports, EcoSchool, Floorball etc.

Charity

We have adopted two pupils from Kenya. Our pupils gain money for the pupils in Kenya by collecting old paper and plastic closures. Besides they earn money by sale of their products at the Christmas Fair. Also parents support financially this activity at the school Academy. 

Every year pupils in our school sell their products for the project Šance as well. In this way they strive to help the young living on the street.

School magazine

The school has been proud of its magazine for several years. It provides information about activities of the pupils, their success, they try to make fun. At present our pupils publish their magazine mainly on their own. They decide about its content and graphics with the help of PC.

Graduates

Pupils in grade 9 make good use of their knowledge and skills in their final papers. They present them in the last weeks of their school attendance. Traditionally, the school organizes SCIO tests in class 5 and 9.

After 9 years our pupils become graduates who are accepted at secondary schools they chose. However, they tend to return to our school regularly and we meet them in the halls of their former "Zaalejka", as they like to call the school. They often come to boast about their results from their new schools, get some advice or just to have a talk. You can often meet them here at their teacher training. They used to sit at their desk and now they are standing in front of them.
